ANTM Interview With Stacy-Ann Fequiere

Yesterday, I got the chance to talk to Stacy-Ann Fequiere, the most recent
eliminated contestant from America’s Next Top Model. She was so sweet and a
joy to talk to!

Full interview below the jump!

Tell us about yourself and about how you got involved in Top Model.

My name is Stacy-Ann and I’m from Miami. That’s where I go to school. ANTM
held an audition at my school, so I walked in. I was wearing just jeans and a
t-shirt, and I made it to the semi-finals and then into the house. I’m in
school for education. I got married at 18 and it will be 5 years of marriage
in March. My parents are from Jamacia.

What did you learn the most from your experience on the show?

What I learned the most about was about posing in photo shoots. I learned
about being natural and how not to be posey-posey. You still need to show
emotion, like how Tyra showed us with pain and Benny Ninja showed us with
voguing. I had never done posing like that before. I learned about the
different types of modeling and posing, like commercial and couture. I
learned how to bring my personality and energy to photo shoots and how to use
my angles, but to make it all look and feel natural.

What makes you a Top Model and why did you think you’d do well on the show?

I have lots of energy and a warm, bubbly personality. I’m relatable and I’m
not a dramatic person. I’m happy, outlgoing and I love life. I’m also
really positive and I hoped that my positivty would get me far. It did, but
not far enough!

What are your plans for the future?

I’m going to finish my degree first, then I’m going to Japan, where I can
teach and model. I want to try to do both at the same time and see where that
takes me. I’ve always wanted to go overseas and I was devastated when I was
eliminated. I was eliminated at the airport! Who does that? It was completely
devastating. So I’m looking forward to Japan and teaching and modeling and
seeing the world. Both modeling and teaching are my passions and I would love
to pursue both. I really want to be a well-rounded person and I work really
hard at that. I want to take what I learned from this competition and use it
in all apsects of my life. I want to teach and to motivate other girls and be
a positive examples for them. I’ve been lucky and so blessed and I want to
give back to other girls and share my experiences with them.

How did you feel about all the negative feedback about your personality from
the judges?

I was upset by how it was edited. I got lots of great feedback too, but none
of that was shown on the show. I was just being myself, being energetic. I
guess sometimes people mistake my bubbliness and confidence for being fake.
When you go up to a complete stranger and are like “hi, how are you?” it
might not come across as open and warm, but calculated. But I’m not like
that. I’m just a warm, open person who loves meeting people and talking with
people. Being misunderstood was devastating.

How is Paulina as a judge? Is she always as critical as she was in the last
episode?

Paulina is very critical and she can often misinterpret what you are trying
to do. At the party, she gave me good feedback as well as bad and they didn’
t show the bad. As for Nigel’s saying I came across as fake–he said that
right after I said hi to him at the party. That’s not really enough to go
on, I don’t think. I was honestly confused by the entire portrayal of the
party and the editing of it.

Did Jay give you lots of feedback on the photo shoots?

Jay didn’t give me as much feedback as he could have. I came into this
competition confident and ready for criticism, but some of the other girls
weren’t. Like Fatima and Lauren, they weren’t ready for the critiques and
for the challenges, so Jay had to give them lots of comments and instructions
and they got a lot better. I think he was so focused on those girls that it
didn’t leave as much room for feedback for me. So during the photo shoots, I
often went with my gut and did what I thought was right, what felt right.
Then I’d find out at panel that what I did was totally wrong and panel would
be like “you should have done this and this.” It was frustrating.

How did you feel about Fatima not being eliminated?

It wasn’t fair. Fatima missed the photo shoot, and it was hard photo shoot.
It was really cold and windy–you saw how badly my eyes teared up! Plus we
were all told told to have our documents in order and she didn’t. But when
they told us they were going to judge us on our body of work, I knew I was
going home. I didn’t think it was fair, especially since we were the only
two getting judged on our entire body of work and everyone else on a single
photo, but that’s what they did.

What advice do you have for future contestants?

I’d tell them not to get comfortable, even if you do great one week. It can
all change the next week. I mean, Lauren wasn’t comfortable, she wasn’t
confident and she wanted to go home.(註:what??) So I felt that I was doing better than
her overall. But nope. You need to be prepared for anything if you’re going
to go on this show.

Who was your biggest competition on the show?

At first I thought it was Fatima. We were the “pretty black girls” on the
show and she was gorgeous. She looks like Iman and she was so skinny. But as
the competition went on, she became less and less of a threat to me. She wasn
’t confident and she often struggled in her photo shoots. Anya, I think,
emerged as serious competition. She’s really a natural when it comes to
modeling and being in front of a camera. She’s great at taking pictures and
her photos are always so pretty.

Who do you plan on keeping in touch with?

Marvita and Whitney. I got along great with Whitney. She’s such a great
girl. Marvita is too. Hopefully, all the girls will want to get together and
do something at one point.

What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

I just want to thank all the people who supported me, especially after my
elimination episode aired. I didn’t think that many people were watching me,
especially since I didn’t stand out on the show, I wasn’t very involved in
the drama. But I don’t want to change who I am or what I do and I’m so
lucky and fortunate that people recognized that in me and responded to that.
I just want to live my life, and be happy and go for your dreams and I’m
amazed at how many people were supportive of me. So to my fans and
supporters, I thank you!

What were your thoughts on all the drama in the house?

I thought most of the drama was unnecessary. With the alarm clock, Dominique
was told many, many times to fix it and she didn’t. However, I thought
Claire was a bigger person than that. After the confrontation, she dragged it
out for far longer than it needed to be. When Whitney and Dominique were
fighting, they both wanted me to get involved and take a side. I was friends
with Whitney and dominique thought I was her friend too, but I just didn’t
want to go there, so I refused. It wasn’t my drama. I wasn’t involved.
Nothing was said to me or about be and I stayed out of it. The competition
changes girls. Maybe they felt inferior or stressed out or threatened and the
house drama got intense. Maybe they needed to do that to build their
confidence.

What are your thoughts on Dominique?

I didn’t like Dominique at the beginning of the competition. But as the
competition went on, i realized that she wasn’t a bad person. She was crazy, (註:所以下集會到瘋人院?)
definitely, talking herself in third person and psyching herself up like
that. I don’t how how to explain her, I don’t think anybody can. But she’s
not a bad perosn, she just can’t help herself.

Who are you rooting for now?

Whitney. There was a lot of changing history in our cycle, with the
elimination at the airport and Fatima getting to continue on, and having 14
girls to start the competition. Plus it’s the tenth cycle. It’s time for a
plus-sized girl to win. And Whitney’s great, she totally deserves to.

How did you feel about your makeover?

My hair is growing out and i relaxed it so it’s straighter. I don’t look
like a troll doll anymore. I didn’t like my makeover at all, but I tried to
work it and show the judges I can work anything. But I’m definitely growing
it out.

What photo shoot was your favorite?

The paint photo shoot, when it was a close-up and we had paint all over our
faces. Sometimes the paint got in our eyes. It was complicated and messy and
I was so nervous, but i pushed through and I’m really proud of myself.

Thank you Stacy-Ann and good luck!

Thank you!!
