Studio Description:
Balthazar Blake (Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying
to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Molina).

Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Baruchel),
a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant
protégé.

The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and
science of magic, and, together, these unlikely partners work to stop
the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive
his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes "The Sorcerer's
Apprentice."

Analysis: Director Jon Turteltaub, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and actor
Nicolas Cage are at it again with The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which follows
their collaboration on the highly successful National Treasure movies. Very
loosely inspired by the segment of the same name from Walt Disney's Fantasia
(itself adapted from a poem by Goethe), the fantasy action-comedy zaps into
theaters July 16, opposite Inception, and there's probably no coincidence
that the last two Harry Potter movies opened at the same time of year.

Despite its Mickey Mouse roots, Sorcerer's Apprentice has aimed its wand
beyond children and their parents, courting teens and up with its slick
special effects mayhem in Manhattan. Disney delivered fantastical New York
antics with the 2007 release of Enchanted, which grossed $127.8 million.
Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer, of course, have also had unlikely success in
the past with the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which they will try
to repeat earlier in the summer with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Sorcerer's Apprentice's foundation isn't nearly as popular as Harry Potter's,
therefore Potter-like initial grosses should not be expected. But, like
Potter and others, Apprentice features a big battle of good versus evil and
the training of a chosen one (played by Jay Baruchel from Tropic Thunder and
Knocked Up).

Its Disney's third and final big gun of the summer after Prince of Persia
and Toy Story 3, and they'll be putting all of their formidable marketing
might behind it. The average gross of Apprentice's similar movies is around
$120 million, and the movie will need to soar much higher than that to
impress.

"魔法師的學徒"的根基並不像哈利波特那麼穩固
所以我們也不該期待他會有波特般的首映票房
然而,魔片就跟哈利波特與其他奇幻電影一樣
擁有正邪兩方的大對抗,外加萬中選一"就世主"的訓練過程
(以本片為例,則是辣妹愛宅男的男主角傑巴魯奇)

本片是迪士尼今年繼波斯王子與玩具總動員3之後的第三部
也是最後一部的暑假大片,他們將會動用全部的資源去行銷這三部片
類似"魔"片的電影,平均票房有1.2億美金
不過本片如果要將票房拉得更高,那就要讓影迷對本片更有印象了

目前對本片有兩個不太妙的地方
1."全面啟動"的宣傳更為積極
雖然這兩片的主要目標不一樣,但我覺得還是會造成排擠效應
比方說想看"全"片的應該就比較不會去注意本片

2.影評不優
目前他在濫番茄的先行影評,只有一篇給予好評
當然,像是先前影評也不佳的"降世神通"還是賣出超乎預期的高票房
但我多少覺得那是因為他目標分類很好,專門給國小同學看的緣故

"魔法師的學徒"固然不難看出想要大人小孩通吃的決心
不過能否達到同樣的效果,恐怕還需要觀察
