Next Top Model 14's Anslee.
**************************************************
How old are you?
I'm 23. (height?) 5'9" (ethnicity?) Irish on my mother's side and Native Ameri
can and other stuff from my father's side. (hometown?) I grew up in north Geor
gia... my hometown is Dacula but I now live [on nine acres] in Auburn, Georgia.
Are you still working two jobs [as you mentioned in your ANTM intro tape]?
Before the show, I was a nanny by day and worked in a bar at night. Since I ha
ve been back home I have stopped the bar-tending and now I am just working as
a nanny and loving the free time I get to spend with [my three year old daught
er] Kloey. My husband got a better job making more money so now I don't necess
arily have to work two jobs, also my daughter is getting older and sometimes w
hen I leave she gets upset. I definitely appreciate it, I was working so many h
ours during the week and I was dog tired and it started taking its toll on me.
How did your husband deal with being a single father while you were gone?
He handled it very well, there were days where it ended up getting a little st
ressful for him because he had to deal with Kloey getting slightly emotional wh
ile he was also emotional from missing me. We've only been married a couple of
months, we got married in October, but we've been together for four years, and
in that four years he has never experienced me being gone for that long, so as
emotional as it was for her, it was extremely emotional for him too. Also, it
was kinda a reality check for him because when I'm around I do everything as f
ar as the household goes and our daughter goes, I am not saying that he makes i
t that way, that's the way I make it. He does a lot for the family and does a l
ot around the house, but outside and I take care of everything inside the house
[including most of the child care] because he does so much as it is - he does
manual labor for a living and when he comes home he is pretty exhausted. So me
being away was a hard thing for him to deal with and he has a whole new level
of appreciation for me and for what I do, but he did it all for me and I appr
eciate it, words can't describe my appreciation to him.
What did you mean when you said that you and your husband are adrenaline
junkies?
What we used to do and we don't do it anymore is we used to go rock crawling (f
yi) - he had a jeep that he built over the years, we stopped doing it a little
after Kloey turned two. My husband grew up around cows, but now he has gotten
into the horse thing which I have been into for years. He does cow sorting and
I do barrel racing and it's an adrenaline rush for me to run three barrels in
sixteen seconds flat, it's not something I do professionally I do it for fun.
When I was younger, I used to break and train horses for a living, but having
a child and getting a little bit older you have a tendency to break things and
I don't have time to be down like I used to. The last baby I broke I ended up
having to put her down which was the worst experience of my life, I broke her
by myself a couple of months before I went to do the show and I had to put her
down a week before my wedding, which was awful - I was mourning and trying to
prepare for my wedding all at the same time. (When did you get your first hors
e? Do you have horses now?) We have two horses now. I have been around horses
since I was really little... I was twelve or thirteen when my parents got me my
first horse, and shortly after that I got into breaking and training horses.
It's something that I always had a passion for, one of my best friends' dad is
a horse trainer, he is seventy something now and he has been training horses s
ince he was in his teens. I learned from him and he taught me the tricks of the
trade. (Does your daughter like horses?) Absolutely, she loves them... she has
absolutely no fear of them whatsoever, she's not your average three year old.
How and when did modeling fit into all of this?
My mother started me out in beauty pageants when I was four or five and it sort
of spun off from there. She took me to different modeling agencies when I was
little but never really wanted me to sign because she was afraid that it would
affect my school. I did little stuff here and there when I was a teenager, from
around age fifteen to eighteen, it was mostly editorial test shoots for photog
raphers or shoots for up and coming clothing designers, stuff that wouldn't in
volve me missing school, it wasn't anything major but it was enough to make me
have a love for it... make me interested in it and make it a dream.
Why did you try out for Top Model?
I went to a casting call in Atlanta, a friend had told me about it only the ni
ght before. I wanted to try out years ago and never thought it was time .... so
when this came around I thought it's time.
How did you like living in New York and the Top Model house?
I really did not mind living there, I just felt like I never saw the sun and it
felt very gloomy. (What did you do to keep yourself busy?) We would talk and
share stories about our lives, that is something you didn't see much of on TV.
(Who were your closest friends in the house?) Krista, Alex and I were very clo
se but by the looks of it, you would not even know that. (Have you been in touc
h with anyone since you left the show?) Alex and I talk all the time.
Who would you like to see win?
I was really close to Alexandra and Krista so of course I want one of them to w
in, realistically I think that it is going to come down to Krista, Alaisia and
probably Raina.
Who do you think has the most potential for the modeling outside of ANTM?
Uh... I would say Raina, but she has such a boxy figure... I find it hard to t
hink that she's gonna have this amazing modeling career... she's very boxy, you
can tell she does sports - she has an athlete's body and nowadays in the model
ing industry you don't see many people with a body shape like that... that is
not to say that she couldn't have a great modeling career because she definite
ly has the ability. Also, Krista, she is unfolding new parts of herself every
time, every picture that she takes is better and better, I think she's going to
blow everyone away with the kind of model she can be, as far as modeling goes,
she has the size, the facial structure and the ability.
How do you feel about your elimination?
Of course I was not happy about it, but I wasn't completely shocked because as
far as the critique went, I felt it was going to go that way, but it's still em
otional because you want to keep pushing and go further. But I was happy with
as far as I went, it was a very big accomplishment for me, so I am really happy
about it, of course I would have been happy if I went further, but you know wh
at I mean.
The fight with Alasia seemed pretty random, was there something that we didn't
see?
From what you all got to see, the fight was over peas and corn, it actually st
arted over a Gogurt stick - the yogurt sticks that look like kinda popsicles.
In the house that was a common food, meaning that anybody could eat it, it was
n't something that one girl had purchased for herself, it was purchased by the
show for all the girls to eat and it had sat on the table at the end of the ha
llway for about three or four days and she was trying to put it back in the re
frigerator, and my thought was, "that's great, there are several people in the
house who could eat that... it's going to make somebody sick." You didn't see
how many times I was extremely nice to her... I just didn't want somebody to
get sick, I was like, "that's not a good idea... it's a dairy product and they
spoil very easily." I told her to look on the package to see if it said "Keep
Refrigerated," because if it did you could make someone really sick. I said th
at to her about three different times in a nice way and she was huffing and puf
fing and had her little attitude and she turned around and smarted off to me wh
ich was something you didn't see and that is all she wrote, I mean I calmed bac
k down after I dumped on her the first time and I was good until she insulted m
y mothering skills and what kind of life my child could have, and then that was
all she wrote... I think any mother would feel slightly insulted if she said w
hat she said to me. (Did you get along in the beginning?) No, as the show went
on that is when I got to like Alaisia better, initially I could not stand her..
. she was very loud, very obnoxious and annoying to me, overzealous... almost
like she's being that over the top person because she wants to be noticed, when
the cameras aren't on she's not that kinda person. It was just annoying to me
and that's why she and I did not hit it off in the beginning.
What was your favorite photo shoot?
My favorite shoot was the CoverGirl shoot on the subway. (Least favorite?)
The hair shoot... well it was stupid to say the least... come on really!
What few words pop in your mind about...
Jay Manuel - Style, style, style.
Jay Alexander - Oh my... f-ing funny.
Nigel - Sweet and honest.
Tyra - Nice from what I could tell, but I did not spend much time with her.
Which judge (or judges) do you think supported you the most?
Tyra and Nigel (Do you have a favorite guest judge?) Rachel Roy ... loved her!
How did you feel about your makeover?
At first it was a shocker and that's why I didn't like it... I was used to hav
ing long hair and was not happy about all my hair being gone... so it was a bi
t of an emotional thing letting that go. (Is your hair naturally curly?)
Yes, that scared me... my hair is naturally curly, it's very curly and the sho
rter it is the harder it is to get it to go straight, but then I figured out th
at it looked super cute curly with a headband or just curly overall. I knew th
at they wouldn't have done this if it wasn't going to help me in some way, sha
pe or form. (Do you still have it?) It still pretty much looks like it did on t
he show except it's a couple of shades darker because I could not keep up with
keeping it blond, so I plan on keeping it short but going back to brown.
Do you plan on pursuing modeling?
I have different offers that are on the table right now and it's about making t
he right decision and picking the one that best suits me and my life right now.
.. so I am contemplating things right now, nothing is set in stone, eventually
there will be one set in stone but it's trying to figure out what is the best
opportunity overall. (Are the opportunities related to agencies, modeling jobs
or both?) Both. I am just waiting to get my portfolio so I can take it around
and show different agencies and see what they think, I am open to any opportu
nity as it stands right now... I am just looking forward to some really good o
nes.
Are you willing to move?
It's not that I wouldn't branch outside the state of Georgia, I just don't wan
t to move my family - my mother would kill me if I took her grandbaby away from
her. (Are you pursuing representation out of town?) I would like to pursue thi
ngs in Atlanta, but I would like to pursue things out of state just to see what
is on the table. This is something that me and my husband have touched on beca
use obviously he does not want me to leave for the length of time that I left
previously, but he knows that there is going to come a time when travel is invo
lved and he is understanding of that. I have a nanny so that if I want to take
my child with me, she is willing to go with me. (So you're going from being a
nanny to having a nanny.) I always had a nanny for anything that comes up, sh
e is a close friend of the family and periodically... whenever I need a break,
she's there, she told me before that if I ever wanted her to travel with me th
at she's more than happy to.
What type of modeling appeals to you, you have a great face, are you consideri
ng beauty work?
Thank you very much, that is my favorite area... beauty campaigns... make up c
ampaigns like MAC or CoverGirl, that's the stuff that I am interested in, the
makeup industry has come so far in the past couple of years, if you think of C
overGirl five years ago, it was [about looking] natural and now they have real
ly come out of that box and it is about empowering women, I think that is a rea
lly interesting concept. Also, commercial [modeling] and I love editorial stuff
too.
When it comes to modeling, what are your strengths and what do you need to work
on?
The biggest thing that I need to work on, and I have been working on it, is mod
eling from head-to-toe and not just [modeling with] my face or from the neck up
. I need to model with my entire body and make my entire body look good on came
ra and not just my face. My face is my asset, it's something that I never had
a problem with making look good on camera, it's just that the rest of my body
that needs to follow my face.
How would you describe the remaining girls?
Krista - Now that things are going for her the way it's going, she got the fir
st picture, I believe that she has the confidence to be a force to be reckoned
with. She has now seen what she can do and that was all that she needed.
Alexandra - She is super sweet and she has the best personality. She is very ou
tgoing even though you don't see that on TV.
Jessica - Jessica is coming out of her little shell and y'all get to see what
she is really like... you saw her be combative in panel... she is not the sweet
innocent little girl that everybody thinks she is.
Alaisia - A lot of people say that "she is young or whatever," and she IS young
so that comes into play, she's just a little lost and she is trying to find he
rself... trying to figure out who she is.
Raina - Kinda similar to Alaisia, I feel like to an extent that she kinda needs
to find out who she is or who she really wants to be, I mean she's got a great
personality, she's a great person but once again I don't think she really know
s yet... I think she is still experiencing things that are still molding her as
a person.
Angelea - You know I think that there are still things in her life emotionally
that she needs to deal with because I think that the attitude that people see
in her comes from a lot of things in her past, and that there are things that
she needs to make amends with and just push on and she would be a lot happier
person. I mean she lost a child that's a very emotional experience in a woman
's life and I don't think that she completely let go of it, I don't think any
person completely lets go of it, but I think that there are parts of it that s
he still needs to deal with on a personal level.
What is your favorite TV show?
Law and Order: SVU. (What is on your i-pod?) Oh let's see, some Maranda Lamber
t , Hank Williams Jr, Korn, all kinds of stuff...
Who is your favorite designer ?
Louis Vuitton. (favorite model?) Heidi [Klum]... hello! (Was she the model you
portrayed at casting?) Yes.
What are your favorite ANTM cycles?
Cycles 11 and 13. (Who are your favorite ANTM competitors?) Nicole (Cycle 13)
and Eva (Cycle 3).
Is there anything that you would like to say to your fans?
Thanks for being there through it all and watching me, without y'all there
would be no show... you make it all possible!
Thank you Anslee!
