Reality TV Games participated in a post-elimination phone call with America
Next Top Model 16's Ondrei Edwards.
How old are you?
I turned nineteen on December 23rd. (Height?) 5'7" (ethnicity?)
African-American. (Hometown?) Muskegon, Michigan... it's a small city near
Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo(How did you get your name?) My father named me and
his name is Ondrei too. (same spelling?) Yes... my name was supposed to
originally be Ariel and when my mom woke up, I was already named and it was
Ondrei. (Is your mother still mad?) She was upset at first but after a while
it just stuck and it was kind of unique.
Describe your family?
I am the baby... there's my mom and dad and I have a sister Sayber, she's the
oldest, I had two brothers, one passed away when I was nine years old and the
other passed away last year on my prom day.
Because of your losses, you ended up dropping out of the competition, how do
feel about that?
I feel very strongly that I made the right decision for me. (What was
occurring, either inside or outside that made you think that being in the
competition was not the right thing for you?) The stress and the cameras and
it being worldwide and everything like may have played a part, but the
majority of it was the grieving process and the fact that I needed to deal
with personal issues. (How have you or are you dealing with these issues, is
it just through the passage of time?) The passage of time helps a lot... I am
a Christian and being in church and gettig professional has helped so far...
seeking psychology has definitely helped me... my pastor and ministers and
other people have helped me out a lot... fellowship and not just being home
by myself... I definitely had help from other people with the process. (What
role did the acting challenge play in bringing this to the forefront?) The
acting challenge definitely brought things to the forefront because it was
confirmation that I needed to go and that I had more issues than I thought...
it wasn't that I couldn't handle the stress of the photoshoots, it was just
that I was going through a tough time in my life.
What are your plans when it comes to modeling?
My plan is to go full force into the industry. I was already starting my book
and getting my pictures together... I was already taking pictures with a
close friend of mine. I may move to New York... I am very excited about the
future and starting my career. (What types of modeling interests you the
most... your height will probably be a challenge when it comes to runway?)
Runway will be a challenge for me, I never did runway before... I did it for
the first time when I got on the show, so I plan on learning over time...
also [things like] CoverGirl... cosmetics... magazines like Vogue... being in
commercials, things like that.
How did you come to be cast on Top Model?
It started with a phone call from a god-sister of mine, she let me know that
there was a casting call for America's Next Top Model. I started in Detroit
and from Detroit to Chicago and from there I made it to Los Angeles. (Were
you interested in modeling before?) I was definitely interested in modeling
but I just did not know how to jump in it, and when this opportunity came, I
went for it, and got on the show.
How did you like living in Los Angeles and the Top Model house?
It was pretty nice, the penthouse was pretty neat... there weren't million
dollar things in the house but there were nice things it was nice staying
with the girls, it wasn't difficult for me. They had their little drama here
and there, but I made sure that I stayed out of it. (Had you traveled
before?) Yeah I've traveled outside of Michigan, I've been places but I had
never been across the country all the way to California.
Who are you rooting for?
Brittani and Molly, they're such amazing girls... I had conversations with
them that weren't aired on TV... they're really amazing people and really do
deserve it. (What is it about them that is winner material?) Both of them
have good personalities, Molly's personality is definitely more tough... and
she is actually like my sister, like the tough part of her, she gave me tough
love even though she was very supportive of me in my decision and she let me
know that "you're going to make it," and everything like that. As far as
being a model, I think that she represents what a model should be and not
just the outside beauty but inner beauty as well, and the same goes for
Brittani, she's a beautiful person inside and out, and I think that she will
be a great model when it comes to her character and how sweet she is.
Did you watch Top Model before?
I watched past episodes, but I did not watch it every season, but in the
beginning I watched it and I watched cycle fifteen. (Favorite cycle?) [Cycle
6], the one where Danielle won and she is my all time favorite person ever.
What are your thoughts about...
Tyra - I really can't say too much about Tyra because just as much as you
would see her on the show, that's how much we saw her, so it's not like we
got private time with her, so I can't judge how she is on the inside, I
really don't know her.
J Alexander - He's a great person, I really connected with him off camera. He
is one of the people that I talked to the most. He's a good person and is
very straightforward... very honest... very blunt, and I appreciated that a
lot.
Erin Wasson - It was nice seeing her and hearing her, her feedback is
important because she is a professional model and she has her own jewelry
collection, so feedback from her was important to me.
Who are your favorite fashion designers and models?
I like [fashion designer] Betsy Johnson. Chanel Iman is my all time favorite
model, she's a beautiful person both inside and out... [I like her in
editorials and on the runway]... when she started doing Victoria's Secret is
when I started loving her even more, it just shows how diverse she is and can
work with all types of people.
What is your personal style.
I like to look professional and I'm very edgy, I like edgy looks. I am the
type of girl that would wear the guy tie with a blazer, things like that...
very different.
What are your favorite TV shows, movies and music?
I really don't have a favorite TV show, it seems like so much on television
is reality and drama, so if I had to pick one it would definitely not be a
reality TV show, it would probably be a drama show like The Game on BET. As
for music, I love all types of music, especially R&B. (Favorite food?) I love
spicy things, if I had to pick an ultimate favorite, it would be hot wings.
(What do you eat on your hot wings?) Nothing, just give me my hot wings and
I'm all right, I don't need anything to cool it down with?
Are you on Facebook?
I am Audie Edwards on Facebook.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
I want to say thank you to those who have been supportive of me the whole
time and that this will definitely not be the last time that you see me.
