Reality TV Games Interview with ANTM 13's Courtney Davies
Reality TV Games participated in a post-elimination phone call with America Ne
xt Top Model 13's Courtney Davies
**************************************************
Note: The phone call got cut off in the middle of a question (see if you can
guess where), so this interview may or may not get updated with the unanswered
questions.
How did you get injured, has your foot healed?
It was weird, I broke my heel when I was cheering. The bone I broke is one tha
t never breaks, so the doctors were like, "I don't know..." This is my fourth
injury, I broke my right ankle three times, but this is my first injury from c
heering, the others were from gymnastics. I am back in the gym... back to tumb
ling - I do physical therapy twice a week.
Why and how did you come to be cast on Top Model?
One of my girlfriends convinced me to auditioned. I had no intention of trying
out, but she brought me to the hotel, dropped me off and it turned out to be
a good thing since I made the show.
What was your interview with Sean Patterson from Wilhelmina like? How about th
e dinner with Sean?
I enjoyed meeting with him and going to dinner with him, it was amazing! We ta
lked about when I worked at Disney and was doing the parade and dance show. He
said I looked high fashion and could do high fashion modeling. I asked him ab
out how [these days] castings are done based on pictures submitted online and
wasn't that impersonal - I would feel awkward meeting a client for the first t
ime at a shoot. He was like, "not every model is as personable as you, so they
would actually rather get cast off of a photo rather than meeting with the cl
ient."
Did you see your elimination coming?
Yes... yeah, could you see it on my face? (laughs) I knew it the night before,
well I didn't know, know, but I could feel it. I have seen enough of the show
... you just know the types of things they are looking for when they are elimi
nating someone and every cycle there is always a girl, who is really pretty bu
t she lets her emotions get the best of her and that is what happened to me. I
n the end, I knew I was going home, when I was doing one of my interviews, I w
as like, "Man I KNOW I am going home, I can just feel that." First Jay said th
at I gave up and then Tyra said I sabotaged myself, so I was like, "OK, I'm go
ing home." (laughs). (Do you think you deserved it?) Um, I think they were a l
ittle harsh, with it being the first time that I was in the bottom two. I thou
ght it was shocking that Bianca was in the bottom two two weeks in a row and s
he didn't go home because that is definitelly deserving of going home... if yo
u are in the bottom two two weeks in a row, you should be out... but I underst
ood why they did it, so I wasn't that upset where I was like, "it wasn't fair
to me whatever..." it wasn't like that. I just knew in the back of my head, bu
t I did not feel like I had the worse picture, definitely NOT! But still I kne
w where they were coming from, I had gotten to the point where I gave up. So y
es I did have a poor attitude and it should not have affected my performance a
nd that was my fault, but I did not give up as much as they said, I tried out
with a broken foot, when I was asked if I could walk, I was like, "of course"
and you saw me walking. If I coulf give up they made it seem like I did, I wou
ld have never even tried out for the show [with an injured foot].
What are your plans, do you plan to pursue modeling?
My family opened our own gym, Triple Threat and I work there forty hours a week
, but I definitely plan to get back into modeling... get back with my agency a
nd go to castings
So it seems like you have previous modeling experience, what kind of work did
you do prior to Top Model?
I did my very first photoshoot two years ago, I was in Glamour Magazine two ti
mes in a row, December '07 and January '08. It was amazing... for my first sho
ot, I got to shoot with Robert Irvman (sp?), one of the best photographers out
there. Also, I booked an Old Navy commercial. I have done local magazine cove
rs around the West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami area, I also did a Hew
lett-Packard shoot. Something that came out right before I did the show was my
JC Penney campaign for Matrix, the hair product. The pictures are in all of t
he Matrix salons all over the U.S.... some of my friends call me and are like,
"oh my gosh, I saw you in JC Penney's!" and I'm like, "oh my gosh!"
On that note, how did you feel about your makeover?
I love my makeover! I love my short hair, it's different and unique and I love
red... not everyone can pull it off, not every girl has this haircut. I think
this is awesome and this is what people want, it's not just the show that lik
es me with short hair, my agency... they just LOVE it! I actually had this sam
e haircut like two years ago - I grew it out and then I went and did the show
and they cut it right back, so I guess this is the haircut that I am suppose t
o have.
Do you have a favorite designer or designers?
Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood... I love Marc Jacobs!
Did you feel that your cheering background helped or hurt you?
Hmmm, that is a tough question, I think that it helped me and hurt me in the s
ame way. I think that they expected a lot of me and put pressure on me knowing
that I had modeled before I did this. And I actually wanted to learn more, I
didn't want to go there acting like I knew everything and how to model already
, I wanted to be taught by people with their experience... I just wanted to le
arn and I just feel like they expected me to already be the best and to alread
y know what's going on and I didn't really have that attitude going into it, so
I am a little torn by that.
Were any comparisons made previous ANTM competitors or other models or celebri
ties?
I have seen a couple where I have been compared to Kim because of my haircut a
nd my voice; also because of my face they have compared me to Analeigh. I am h
onored by that but I don't think that I look anything like them (chuckle)
How do you feel about Brittany and the small argument that you two had - she c
ame across as a know it all. Is her attitude worse than we've seen on TV?
We got along fine, I just felt that she overstepped her boundaries... she shou
ld not tell me how I should feel about something and that is where we disagree
d a little bit, but we never had problems before... things like that happen wh
en you are living in a house full of girls, you are going to have arguments (l
aughs).
You mentioned your agency a couple of times, who represents you?
Yes, I am just getting back with my agent now, I am with Wilhelmina in Miami.
(Do you have representation outside of South Florida?) No, but I am hoping to
go out to LA in December for pilot season, so I am hoping that my agency will
transfer me to Wilhelmina in LA while I am out there for a couple of months.
(What kind of show do you see yourself being cast in, a sitcom, drama, one of
the teen shows on The CW?) I love those! "Gossip Girls" and shows like that,
I love those, I would love to be part of shows like that but I definitely see
myself on a sitcom or one of the HBO TV shows like "True Blood," I love vampir
e shows like "The Vampire Diaries" or "True Blood," that would be amazing!
What do you like to do besides cheerleading and modeling? What are your hobbie
s / outside interests?
I do a lot of musical theater, I grew up doing musicals and plays and dancing,
I do that in my spare time. (What are some of the roles you played?) I was on
e of the Kit Kat girls in "Cabaret," I was one of the leads in "The Boyfriend,
" I also was in "Titanic: The Musical," and a dancer in "Medea." I was one of
the monologues in Elegies from (inaudible) the Raging Queen (interviewer note:
Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens perhaps?).
Are your stats the same as when you started the show, are you still 22 and 5'5
"?
Yes. (What is you ethnicity?) This is such a weird question, because I totally
consider myself THE American girl because I am just like a mutt, my family's
mixed, my mom's side is German and Polish; my dad's side is English and Portug
uese, so I'm a cool American!
What are your thoughts on...
Jay Manuel -
I think he is very respected in what he does and I respect him TOTALLY as a pe
rson and he knows what he is doing and I was so excited to be working with him
, but I feel that the way that I was eliminated... at the photoshoot, I feel l
ike we were butting heads, I was confused on what he wanted and it was just a
long day, but I loved working with him and meeting him and I really hope that
I can work with him in the future.
Nigel - I wish I had gotten to know him better, I only know what I saw at pane
l and in the interview room with him and Sean Patterson... he's really cute (l
aughs). I really wish that I would have gotten the chance to do a photoshoot w
ith him, I am so upset that I didn't get a to work with him. I feel like we wo
uld have had a good chemistry and would have come up with something great.
Jay Alexander - Oh my gosh, what a trip, he's a character! He just joked aroun
d the whole time and just makes it so much fun. He doesn't take his job too se
riously and he can give a critique in a sarcastic way and some girls may take
it personally, but I love that kind of sarcastic-ness, so I thought we got alo
ng great... he's awesome!
