A Dr. McDreamy Exclusive!
May 3, 2006
"Grey's Anatomy" is famous for not revealing any of its upcoming storylines.
In fact, it is no secret that executive producer SHONDA RHIMES has issued a
memo forbidding cast members from spilling the beans.
That didn't stop ET's MARK STEINES from trying to worm some information out
of series star PATRICK DEMPSEY, also known by the series' women interns as
Dr. McDreamy, when the two met on the set of the ABC series, airing Sunday
nights at 10 p.m.
"People will be happy with the end result," Patrick, who plays Dr. Derek
Shepherd, tells Mark of the season finale, airing in two parts, Sunday, May
14 and Monday, May 15 at 10 p.m. "It is what they want to see."
Mark may not have been able to get any spoilers, but he did get some
behind-the-scenes secrets, such as the fact that Patrick is on a
self-prescribed low-carb diet!
"It is stressful because you can't eat the bread products," TV's sexy doc
admits. "There are all these great donuts everywhere you turn around, but you
can't. Thank God, it is TV. I only have to look good from here up [indicates
mid chest]."
Patrick also let slip that sometimes the medical jargon on the show is so
difficult, he writes it on the body in front of him.
"When we were doing the Super Bowl episode, everything was changing rapidly
and we were working on the fly," he shares. "We were just saying, 'Medical,
medical, medical, here we go.'"
Medical consultant LINDA KLEIN also divulged a "Grey's Anatomy" secret: How
she makes the gooey goop they use for blood. "A little corn syrup, a little
preservative and a little red food dye," Linda reveals.
Linda and Patrick also teach Mark the trick to looking like a real doctor: It
is all in the hands.
"There's a proper technique to the gloves," Patrick shares, demonstrating the
two-finger method to Mark, who doesn't quite catch it the first time, but
aces it on the second.
"I watched 'Bob the Builder' a lot when I was a kid," Mark says, by way of
explaining his surgery techniques.
