Idols take their show on road this summer - 實境秀

If you were hoping to hear David Archuleta rap or see Brooke White disco
dance, don't bother coming to this summer's American Idols Live tour.
Capitalizing on a rich talent pool that includes several competitors with
professional music experience prior to American Idol, the traveling showcase
for the top 10 finalists will stick to fare that keeps them in their
respective comfort zones.

"What struck us about this year's group was the depth of the talent, and we
think they'll each pull in their own fan base," says Iain Pirie, head of 19
Recordings U.S., which organizes the tour.

"As opposed to hearing duets and trios sing, this year it'll be more about
the individuals. We'll give them the space and freedom to do their own set.
Think of it as coming to see 10 mini-concerts."

The newly announced tour begins July 1 at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale,
Ariz., and concludes nearly 50 dates later on Sept. 13 at the BOK Center in
Tulsa. Pirie says cities are chosen based on "how big the fan base was for
the show." They range from predictable places such as Los Angeles to smaller
burgs such as Bossier City, La.


"We find that the toughest thing for them is going from an Idol stage (with
a studio audience of hundreds) to playing for more than 10,000 people,"
he says. "It takes some getting used to."

Using extensive lighting and giant video screens, producers are aiming to
"create a distinct mood for each singer," Pirie says. Artists will be
"encouraged to play an instrument only if it's appropriate to them."

Though some of the 10 have songwriting credits, concertgoers won't be treated
to any of their originals this summer. "We really want the experience to
echo the television show, so expect to hear a lot of the songs that did well
during the season," Pirie says.

If Pirie sounds like he has a tight grip on the reins, it's for good reason.

This year is a chance to improve on the numbers posted in 2007 when Idols
Live — with its $20.9 million take — didn't rank among summer's 40 most
lucrative tours. Possible factors for the poor showing included a season with
few breakout stars and higher ticket prices.

"These tours usually do as well as that season's (TV) ratings, so this summer
could prove successful," says Gary Bongiovanni, editor of touring trade
publication Pollstar.

"To some, $20 million for a tour won't sound like a lot. But when you
consider that six months ago, you couldn't sell two tickets to hear these
folks perform, (Idols Live) really is an amazing vehicle for launching total
unknowns."

不過我覺得去年個人秀的時間少了點
希望今年真如文章所說
每個人多點個人秀啊
去年大概只有冠軍到後段才有個人秀吧
