The Donald's reality show is back, and this time Trump will be firing, hiring
celebrities.
Fans of The Apprentice thought they had heard Donald Trump's last utterance
of "You're fired!" when NBC left the show off its fall schedule last May,
forcing Trump to claim he was done with the reality program. However, just
one week ago, rumors were stirring that NBC and Donald Trump were back in
business together, and the business-minded reality show would be back.
"Tell Flavor Flav to clean out his desk!"
The rumors turned out to be true, as NBC has announced that the show will be
back...with a new twist. Instead of rat-race wannabe corporate button-ups
competing for Trump's favor, celebrities will be battling one another.
"We looked overseas and saw how phenomenally well the British version of The
Apprentice did with the celebrity version," said NBC Entertainment and
Universal Media Studios co-chairman Ben Silverman at the Television Critics
Association press tour, currently under way in Los Angeles. "So we're
thrilled to have Donald back, and we really believe in The Apprentice as a
perennial NBC reality franchise. And with [the celebrity twist], we think we
have a hook that's going to draw in the audience."
The celebrities won't be getting a paycheck from Trump, though. The show will
all be done for charity, though details on how that will work still have yet
to be revealed. NBC is targeting a midseason run for The Apprentice, and the
celebrity participants will be "announced at a later date."
