: 1.舊的東西，必須由一位婚姻生活幸福的女人提供，這樣才能暗示著幸福生活也能相傳。

還有另一種解釋，不過基本上要求是相同的：

在美國不少地方的道統婚禮中，對新娘的婚禮服有一種特殊的要求，即必須具有新、舊、
借、藍四個特色。所謂新，就是新娘所穿的白色婚禮服必須是新的。標誌著新生活的開始
；所謂舊，則是新娘頭上戴的白紗必須是舊的。而且是母親用過的舊紗，表示永不忘父母
的養育之恩；而借則是指新娘手中拿的白手帕必須是從女友那裡借來的，寓意是不忘朋友
的情誼；至於藍，則新娘身上披的綢帶必須是藍色的，象徵著新娘對愛情的忠誠永不變心。
