This weekend, Hollywood is spreading the love. For the first time all summer,
a whopping three releases, each with a decent chance to earn big bucks, are
set to debut: Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Meet Dave, and a new version of
Journey to the Center of the Earth that's being shown in 3-D.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Universal ‧ PG-13 ‧ 3,204 theaters ‧ NEW

Thanks to his technical and critical success with Pan's Labyrinth, Guillermo
del Toro has, apparently, been elevated to auteur status since the premiere
of the first Hellboy movie, four-plus years ago. Based on a relatively
obscure comic book and featuring no major stars (Ron Perlman? The Beast?
C'mon), that film earned an impressive $23.2 mil on its first weekend, en
route to a $59.6 mil domestic total and major success on home video. So now
we've got a sequel that appears to be bigger in every way: more star power
(hey, British thesp Luke Goss!); a director — sorry, auteur — who's now a
household name; and a much more substantial marketing push. Oh, and reviews
have been very nice, too. Considering that this has been a good summer for
comic-book movies (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Wanted have all been
hits), Hellboy II sure smells like a winner.
Weekend prediction: $33 million

1.地獄怪客2：金甲軍團
環球/PG13/3204家戲院/新上映

感謝先前技術上與評論上都大獲成功的「羊男的迷宮」，吉勒摩戴托洛已經明顯
將他的地位提高到大師等級。4年前，這部相對黑暗，也沒有大明星坐鎮的漫畫
（朗普曼？拜託），令人印象深刻的在首周賺了2320萬，同時在全美賺取5960萬
總票房以及在DVD銷售的大成功。

所以現在，這部續集在每個方面看起來，都比以前還要更大規模：更強的明星魅力
（嘿，來自英國的路克高思）、家喻戶曉的導演，抱歉前面應該加上「大師級」、
以及更有賺頭的票房市場。對了，這部片最近的影評也非常友善。再加上今年對
漫畫片來說是個不錯的暑假（鋼鐵人、無敵浩克、刺客聯盟都很賣座），地獄怪客2
看起來絕對有贏的本錢

Hancock
Columbia ‧ PG-13 ‧ 3,965 theaters ‧ 2nd weekend
Will Smith will have tallied his fifth consecutive $150 mil domestic earner
by the end of the weekend (bravo!) — and that's even after Hancock drops
nearly 60 percent while competing against so much fresh fare.
Weekend prediction: $27 million

2.全民超人
新力/PG13/3965家戲院/第二周

威爾史密斯將會在本周挑戰連續五部作品，都在美國賣座1億五千萬的紀錄（萬歲！）
，即使全民超人將在本周下跌將近六成，同時還要面對這麼多新來的敵人

預測週末票房：2700萬

WALL-E
Walt Disney/Pixar ‧ G ‧ 3,849 theaters ‧ 3rd weekend
The latest Pixar fable has $140 mil in the bank so far, and its sights are
set on the $200 mil mark. But will the opening of the kid-friendly Journey to
the Center of the Earth have an impact on WALL-E's box office fortunes this
weekend? Not likely (see below).
Weekend prediction: $20 million

3.瓦力
迪士尼-皮克斯/G/3849家戲院/第三周
這部皮克斯最新的科幻寓言，目前賺了1億4千萬，同時也將最終目標鎖定在突破兩億。
但是看起來對小孩有吸引力的「地心冒險」，會對瓦力的票房數字造成影響嘛？
應該是不會（原因後述）

預測週末票房：2000萬

Meet Dave
Fox ‧ PG ‧ 3,011 theaters ‧ NEW
It's never a good sign when a studio doesn't host advance screenings of a
movie, which happened (or, I guess, didn't happen) in this case. Even still,
tell me: Are you really dying to see this high-concept Eddie Murphy comedy,
formerly known as Starship Dave, in which an alien spaceship/robot resembling
Eddie Murphy and captained by someone who also looks like Eddie Murphy lands
on Earth? Didn't think so. Does that plot summary even make sense? Didn't
think so, either. The last time Murphy did the space thing, he crashed with
The Adventures of Pluto Nash (which was one of the biggest flops ever,
earning just $4.4 mil in the summer of 2002). Then again, as the somewhat
inexplicably successful Norbit, Daddy Day Care, and The Haunted Mansion
prove, Murphy is one of the most durable box-office draws around.
Weekend prediction: $11 million

4.大衛特大號
福斯/PG/3011家戲院/新上映

當片廠沒有舉辦試映會時，對電影來說絕對不是好預兆。
就算片廠沒有取消試片會，請告訴我：這部由艾迪莫非主演，之前叫做Starship Dave
的高概念喜劇，內容是說艾迪墨菲外型的外星人太空船，同時也由艾迪墨菲飾演的船長
，領導他降落地球，你會想看嘛？我不會！劇情大綱有意義嘛？我也不認為！

上次墨非嘗試與太空相關的電影，是影史最大慘敗之一的「星際冒險王」（2002暑假
只賺了440萬）。不過，他也有不少難以理解的成功片，如糯米正傳、奶爸安親班、
鬼屋，都證明了墨菲是影壇最耐用的票房明星之一

預測週末票房：1100萬

Journey to the Center of the Earth
Warner Bros./New Line ‧ PG ‧ 2,811 theaters ‧ NEW
Here we have the last official release from the old incarnation of New Line
(the film was made and set to premiere before the studio was absorbed by
Warner Bros. earlier this year), which is being shown in 3-D in 854
locations. (It is, in fact, the first live-action movie to be shot in digital
3-D.) I had the chance to see it at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas in
March and was impressed. But I also wondered if a remake of Jules Verne's
classic adventure, featuring Brendan Fraser and a bunch of newcomers, will
truly appeal to families who are accustomed to thrills courtesy of Hulks and
Iron Men and Will Smiths these days. The 3-D aspect may attract some
customers (and the more-expensive 3-D tickets are an added plus), but I fear
this film could wind up a noble failure.
Weekend prediction: $10 million

5.地心冒險
華納-新線/PG/2811家戲院/新上映

本片剛好是舊型態新線影業，正式發行的最後一部電影
（本來要在新線完全被華納兄弟掌控之前上映）。
這部影史第一部真人演出的數位3D電影，將會在854個有3D設備的戲院上映。
我曾經在三月賭城的ShoWest會議中目睹，並讓我印象深刻，
但是我也懷疑，這部改編自Jules Verne的經典冒險小說，
由布蘭登費雪加上一些新人的組合，
是否能吸引已經在最近習慣於浩克、鋼鐵人與威爾史密斯視覺刺激的家庭。
就3D技術而言，他的確可以吸引一些影迷（當然也包括更貴的票價），
但是我更擔心本片是個大失敗
