看摩登家庭學英文_Modern Family S01E01 - 歐美

我想摩登家庭迷們應該很開心，因為abc已經確定摩登家庭會有第八季了！我本身是摩
登家庭的頭號粉絲，很喜歡這齣戲的劇情讓人輕鬆無負擔，前一陣子和美國朋友聊天之後
，意外發現摩登家庭其實有蠻多不錯的字彙和英文俚語，決定從第一季第一集開始整理，
也歡迎對摩登家庭有興趣的版友們可以到我的網誌看看，未來每個禮拜三都會有最新的整

書蟲女孩個人非常喜歡看美劇，看美劇不僅可以練習英文聽力，同時也可以一邊模仿
Native Speakers 的說話語氣，學習講英文的抑揚頓挫，試著讓自己講出一口「美式」
英文。美劇的內容相當多元，近幾年知名度最高的大概就是權力遊戲和陰屍路，都是比較
偏向劇情類的影集，但是我比較喜歡輕鬆無負擔的情境喜劇，因為每集都只有短短的 20
幾分鐘，也不用擔心少看了一集就看不懂後續的劇情，在這麼多情境喜劇中，我最愛的就
是 Modern Family 摩登家庭，每一集我至少都看過 4~5 次以上（有點誇張，但我真的太
喜歡這種充滿歡樂、生活化的喜劇，看了之後心情都會很好！），對劇情已經掌握到你跟
我說任何小細節我都會有印象的境界，然而前一陣子和一個美國朋友聊天發現 Modern
Family 裡面有許多不錯的字彙與用法，如果有考慮未來在美國生活，不妨多多了解美國
人如何說英文，相處的時候就可以避免因為聽不懂美國人的語義而不敢開口，所以接下來
每週我都會整理 Modern Family 中一些不錯的字彙和語法，讓大家可以邊看邊學，也歡
迎大家和我一起討論劇情呦：）

Modern Family season 1 episode 1 : Pilot

banister: (n.) a structure like a fence with a bar on top that is built along
the side of a set of stairs.

樓梯旁邊的這種欄杆就叫做banister，也就是本集中 Luke 頭卡住的地方 lol

take it down a notch: instruction to an individual to regulate his or her
level of enthusiasm. 中文可翻譯為收斂一點
→例句：Robert needs to take it down a notch with the flirting; he already
has a girlfriend.


surrogate (n.)代理孕母



cream puff: a white gay guy.（含有歧視意味，不建議使用）


be bound to: Be certain or destined to; also, be determined or resolved to.
→ 例句：It’ s the first time you have had a boy over. I’m bound to be a
little surprised.


little blow up with others: 在本集中意指與某人鬧不愉快 ，同意用法還
有 come to blows with sb/over sth
→ 例句：They almost come to blows over the money.

其實blow up 還有很多種用法，意思也各異：

1.To come into being: A storm blew up.

2.To fill with air; inflate: blow up a tire.

3.To enlarge a photographic image or print.

4.To explode: bombs blowing up.

5.To lose one’s temper.


primal (adj): feeling or actions seem to be belong to a part of
people’s character that is ancient and animal-like. 本能的
→ 例句：People always have a primal fear of the unknown.


gloomy goose: a sad person
→ 例句： Jay, stop being such a gloomy goose!

sheriff (n.) 警長（附上一張圖片讓大家更能了解，畢竟台灣好像沒有警
長這種角色）

get in the spirit of things: to show that you are happy to be at a
social event by talking to a lot of people, dancing, or wearing special

clothes. 中文對照起來應該比較類似「融入氣氛」
→ 例句： I’m afraid I was feeling too ill to really get into the spirit
of the evening.


uptight (adj.):behaving in an angry way because you are feeling
nervous and worried.
→ 例句：You have to learn to laugh instead of getting uptight about
things.


以上就是 Modern Family 第一季第一集中我覺得蠻不錯的一些單字和語法，我自己
在學英文的過程中，也曾因為求快，看到生字時就直接去查它的中文意思，但後來發現這
樣中英交錯的背單字方式其實會比較容易忘記（也有可能是讀書鬥志已遠不如高中時期！
），有蠻多英文單字其實也是硬翻成英文，後來在老師的介紹下接觸了英英字典，就是用
簡單英文解釋英文生字的字典，瞬間發現以前誤解了很多單字的原意，我個人用的英英字
典是 LONGMAN 的，推薦給大家，如果有空的話可以嘗試用心方式來認識更多英文生字，
保證你會對英文有全新的發現！

§摩登家庭小趣聞：拍攝第一季第一集的時候，飾演 Claire 的 Julie Bowen 已經
懷孕八個半月，而且還是雙胞胎！但她實在太想要演這個角色了，只好想辦法把肚子束起
來，真是太佩服這位媽媽了
