書蟲女孩這個禮拜剛好忙到一個段落，所以就寫了兩篇看影集學英文，寫到後來發現
，大家已經透過這個單元學了 10 週的英文，也應該來檢視自己是不是真的有學到新的單
字，畢竟英文單字背了不用真的很容易會忘記，所以下禮拜書蟲女孩會推出一個有趣的複

Modern Family season 1 episode 11–Up All right

本集故事仍是分成三線進行，Phil 因為腎結石住院，但一直掛念 Claire 是否有為了
帥消防員特別打扮；Manny 的爸爸 Javier 首次登場，Jay 一開始相當不屑 Javier 每次
都對 Manny 放鴿子的行為，可是最終還是被 Javier 給收買，像天真的孩子一樣相信他和
Javier 之間的約定；Cam 和 Mitch在對 Lily 的撫養方式上出現衝突，Cam 只要 Lily
一哭就想會馬上去安撫他，而 Mitch 則想要用 Ferber method，意即嬰兒哭鬧時不特別
安撫，讓他們哭累了就自己睡著。看完整集之後，我也好想親眼目睹 LA 的消防員到底是
有多帥！

twinge (n.) 陣痛、抽痛

其他用法

resent (v.) 憎恨
to feel angry or upset about something that someone has done, especially you
think that is not fair.→ resent sb doing sth
Phil: Do I resent this?

out of the blue 天外飛來一筆
an event that occurs unexpectedly, without any warning or preparation.
Jay: Now he just sails in here out of the blue.

matadors (n.) 鬥牛士
a man who fights and kills BULLS during a BULLFIGHT＝bullfighter
Javier: The matadors, they’re like artists.

deport (v.) 遣返
to make someone leave a country and return to the country they come from,
especially because they do not have the legal right to stay→deport sb
from/to sth
例句：He was deported from Ecuador when his visa expired.
Phil: She stole a turkey at Thanksgiving for her family and got deported?

convulse (v.) 使抽搐
1.if your body or a part of it convulses, it moves violently and
you are not able to control it.
2.be convulsed with laugher/anger etc to be laughing so much or
feel so angry that you shake and are not able to stop yourself.
3. if something such as a war convulses a country, it causes lots
of problems or confusion.
Phil: I’m out here convulsing in agony and you’re looking for the cute
tops to wear?

hunky (adj.) 帥氣、有吸引力的（男性專用）
a man who is hunky is sexually attractive and has a big strong body.
Phil: We want you looking your sexiest when the hunky, gay firemen get here!

spontaneous (adj.) 隨性的
1. something that is spontaneous has not been planned or
organized, but happens by itself, or because you suddenly feel you want to do
it.
2. someone who is spontaneous does things without planning them
first-used to show approval.
Javier: From me, he learns how to be spontaneous, grab a life by the throat.

infuriating (adj.) 惱人的
very annoying.
例句：The infuriating thing is that he is always right.
Mitch: Cameron, do you realize how infuriating this is?

scenario (n.) 可能的情況
a situation that could possibly happen.
Phil: This is not gonna happen, okay, but here is a scenario where you could
be the man of the house…

seduce (v.) 引誘
1. to persuade someone to have sex with you, especially in a way that is
attractive but not too direct.
2. to make someone want to do something by making it seem very attractive or
interesting to them. seduce sb into doing something.
Jay: No one is getting seduced.

dowdy (adj.) 邋遢的
1. a dowdy woman is not attractive because she wears dull and unfashionable
clothes.
2. dowdy things are dull, unattractive ,and unfashionable: dowdy dress
Claire: I think I just spend too much time in dowdy mom clothes.

articulate (v.) 說出
(formal) to explain your ideas or feelings in words.
Phil: Hello, fully articulating, five-function robot

bad cop:
a person in a position of authority who is strict or mean. (壞警察/黑臉)
good cop:
a person in a position of authority who is nice. （好警察/白臉）
Mitch: I can’t always be the bad cop here. She can’t grow up with one huge,
happy, cuddly dad and one frown, lesson-teachy daddy.

聞就是美國知名的Youtuber Tyler Oakley 專訪飾演 Mitchell 的 Jesse Tyler
