民國初年，文家染坊的大小姐文玉禾因為父親欠下鉅款，嫁到以燈籠製造業為生的大戶辜
家，不想新婚之日丈夫辜少棠沒有回家，辜家老太太李氏命管家夏雲開將之迎入府中，以
公雞代替拜堂，玉禾覺得倍受侮辱，當為切下公雞的頭，被押入祠堂罰跪，雲開同情玉禾
遭遇，欲放她離開，可是玉禾卻顧忌父親的安危，決定留下，晚上，李氏帶著玉禾點燈，
告訴她，自己守節二十年，帶大三個兒子，可如今卻只剩三少爺少棠一個，她希望玉禾能
讓少棠浪子回頭，玉禾被她感動，一口答應。
