Colbie Caillat On 'American Idol:' 'Adam's Going To Win'
April 29, 2009 04:36 PM ET
Monica Herrera, N.Y.
Colbie Caillat is a dedicated fan of "American Idol."
"I'm like the loser that goes home from the studio and watches every night,"
the 23-year-old singer tells Billboard.com, but unlike millions of viewers,
she's not quite on the Adam Lambert bandwagon.
"I think Adam is the most talented vocally, but I don't love how he turns
every song into that style of music," says Caillat, who nonetheless agrees
that Lambert is the favorite. "I think Allison has a beautiful voice…and
people are having a crush on Kris, for sure. They all have their own different
talents, it's hard. But Adam's going to win."
Caillat will join the "American Idol" live audience tonight (April 29) as
a guest of judge Kara DioGuardi, who co-wrote three tracks for Caillat's
sophomore effort "Breakthrough," due in late August. DioGuardi joined Caillat
and a small team of songwriters and producers for a three week "writing camp"
in Hawaii to develop new material for the record.
"I was writing with Jason [Reeves] when I came home from tour, and he was
hanging out with Kara in the studio," says Caillat. "She ended up adding this
amazing part to one of my songs and I got along with her really well, so I was
like, ‘Do you want to come to Hawaii with us? Let's make this a group thing.'
I think opening your mind to new things is great, especially for me trying to
grow as an artist."
"Falling for You," the debut single from Caillat's upcoming album, will be
released in June. Her first album, "Coco," has sold 1,916,000 copies according
to Nielsen SoundScan and "Lucky," her current duet with Jason Mraz, is at No. 9
on this week's Adult Top 40 Airplay chart.
