其實這是個老笑話演變而來的對話模式(來源不大可考)
因為很好套用所以常被人用來耍幽默地表達情緒。
這個對話模式其實共有五句:
A: knock, knock.
B: who's there?
A: 回答人名
B: 重覆 A上句的回答 + who
A: 回應一個有關這人名的冷笑話
例如
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Luke.
Luke who?
Luke out of the window!
不過這個對話模式現在被延申使用的範圍似乎更廣泛
後三句甚至可以不用牽扯到人名
而是對話雙方舒發當時的心情
例如
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Aren't you?
Aren't you who?
Aren't you supposed to get back to work?
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Don't you.
Don't you who.
Don't you wish I hadn't been so busy at the hardware store...
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Orange.
Orange who?
Orange you are going to give us a break by zipping this credit card
through the credit card machine...
