Reality TV Games participated in a post-elimination conference call with
America Next Top Model 13's Lisa Ramos
1. What was it like being part of ANTM 13, aka the short cycle?
It felt good to be among girls who are shorter, we were all there because of
our height, usually I am one of the shorter girls [at a casting], so it was a
good thing. [About being brought back after not being selected for the
original cast] It felt strange... I know I wasn't the original pick, I am a
leftover, the other girls saw me as the underdog. I had fun, so I am not
complaining about the experience.
2. Did you have experience prior to the show?
I did do mostly beauty modeling before Top Model. I did not have an agent, I
was freelance, I got a job modeling for a small cosmetics company.
3. Can you confirm your statistics - Are you still nineteen? from Queens...
and you are 5’5”?
Yes to all of that. I am still in school, my major is health science. [What
is your ethnicity?] I am from the Dominican Republic.
4. Why do you think you were eliminated?
I did not let my personality shine through... I tried to, I didn't want the
judges to think that I did not want to be there. [About the photoshoot and
her selected photo] I was not a happy clown... actually I did a bunch of
different expressions, I was a happy clown, a sad clown, an angry clown...
whatever the photographer told me to be. The photo selected was not my
favorite, but I am over it now.
5. How did you feel about your makeover, do you plan to keep it?
I like it a lot and yes, I plan to keep it... they really did not do that
much to it, just cut the ends off. [Interviewer: Didn't they color it?] No,
they didn't color my hair.
6. How did you come to be cast on Top Model?
I tried out and made it through all of the rounds and then I went to Los
Angeles and made it through to the semi-finals. I didn't make it to the
finals and went back home. I was in school and my plan was to finish up the
semester and pursue modeling in the summer... and apparently Amber had to
drop out for personal reasons and they called me, I packed and less than 48
hours later I was back in LA. It was a dream of mine to get in the show, I
have been a fan of Tyra all my life... The Fresh Prince of Bel Air... her
movies.. Top Model and her talk show. I tried out for cycle 12 and did not
get past the the first round [Do you think it was because of your height?] I
believe so... I was the shortest one there even with heels on.
7. Who were your closest friends in the house, have you kept in touch with
them?
I connected with Kara, Lulu, Jennifer, Ashley and Rachel and I am still in
touch with them
8. Were a fan of Top Model before going on the show?
I have been a Top Model fan forever... I love the theme photoshoots the most,
I really don't have a favorite season. My favorite photoshoot was the one
that they did underwater, when the girls were in a tank.
9. Who are you favorite non-ANTM models?
My favorite models are Adriana Lima, Chanel Iman and Agyness Deyn.
10. In a few words, what pops in your mind about...
Jay Manuel - He looks like a Ken Doll--- he's good looking... very well put
together.
Chanel Iman - She is so gorgeous and humble, you can talk to her, she was
very approachable.
Jay Alexander - He is so cool and funny. He is just like he was on TV... they
all are.
Nigel - He is good looking, I love his accent... I have a crush on him. He
gave me such great advice about modeling.
Tyra - She is so gorgeous and tall, she looks like a big Barbie doll... she
is a little intimidating but still she is a real person.
11. What are your plans, do you plan to pursue modeling?
I am also going to continue with school, I am also going to keep modeling,
including checking into agencies. [Later] I will go anywhere there is a
market for my look... LA... overseas... I don't have any problem with
experimenting.
12. Do you think that your height will stop you from fulfilling your modeling
goals?
Not necessarily. Every model has a feature that they have to deal with, with
Tyra it's her boobs, she has always had to work around her boobs. [How do you
deal with your height?] Well, photographers tend to shoot me from a lower
angle... I wear heels, I elongate neck and try to accentuate my legs. [What
do you need to improve upon as a model?] Posing... my facial expressions are
OK because of the beauty modeling, I am used to modeling from the shoulders
up, but I need to work on my posing more.
