Wetpaint Entertainment: In your exit interview, you said you were taking a
break from modeling. Did you?
Chris Hernandez: No, actually, I haven’t. I’ve created quite a post-show
portfolio for myself. I definitely continued modeling. I did the opposite,
actually.
Wetpaint Entertainment: How tough was the exercise challenge with Cycle 19
winner Laura James?
Chris Hernandez: The exercising challenge was something that really bothered
me. One of the things was that me and Jeremy, we were the ones who worked out
every day. We woke up at 6 or 7 o’clock in the morning and would work out at
night. We were two of the contestants that worked out since day one. I trained
hard for that fitness video and that was one of the challenges — because I
didn’t win any challenge on the show — that I actually wanted to win. And
Laura is a sweetheart, so it was nice interacting with her the short time that
I did.
Wetpaint Entertainment: The bat challenge seemed to be tough for you, what was
it like behind the scenes?
Chris Hernandez: I got scratched by the bat, actually. I was freaking out. The
medics that were nearby told me that since I was scratched and was bleeding,
that I was going to turn into a bat. They said I would be sensitive to light
and that I wouldn’t want to drink water — all these things that bats are
supposed to get. They were freaking me out. That could have played a role into
why I was unable to focus and concentrate. I don’t get scratched by a bat on
a normal basis and they were telling me I could die in a week.
Wetpaint Entertainment: You were in the Bottom 2 for a few weeks, but I would
assume that Nina leaving was the hardest hit. How was recovering from that?
Chris Hernandez: The hardest hit actually wasn’t Nina leaving, it was me being
on panel by myself because it was a place that I was familiar with but never
wanted to be there again. Going up to that panel [when he was in the bottom
with Alexandra] and not having anyone — even if they’ve fought that day,
they’re holding hands — I didn’t have that. It was just me. And I really
wanted to go to Indonesia. I put goals in front of me and I saw that goal going
away from me.
Wetpaint Entertainment: How did it feel being in the house with everyone
against you?
Chris Hernandez: Having people in the house out to get me let me know that I
was top competition and there was a reason why they all didn’t like me,
obviously. I think it helped me in a way. At first, I was more focused on the
competition. I think if I would have focused on friends, I would have helped
them out and given them advice. You don’t want to give advice to people that
are your competition. You could be nice and want to do that, but at the end of
the day, there’s only one winner. How bad do you want this?
Wetpaint Entertainment: Do you have any regrets for anything that happened in
the house?
Chris Hernandez: I don’t have any regrets because at the end of the day, it’s
made me the strong person I am right now. Coming off the show, I was able to
reflect on who I was and who I want to be. That’s some footage that I’ll have
to go back to and remember when I was this dumb guy and over the line, I won’t
be that person again. I’m too confident, too focused, and too driven on
myself. I’m in a happy place now.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Are you still friends with anyone from the house?
Chris Hernandez: It only takes one person to open their mouth and say, “Hey
guys, by the way, I’m cool with this person. We talk all the time. We actually
hang out.” It only takes one person to do that, and if they don’t do it, I
don’t see them as friends.
Chris Hernandez: I would say that I’m not friends with anyone in the house
because I find the contestants to be fake, in my opinion, especially watching
the show now. I was always involved in confrontation because I always spoke my
mind. If I saw something and I didn’t like it, I spoke it to you, I didn’t
have to go into confessions. I don’t keep friends too much. I’m cordial and
I’ll say hi and party with them, but that’s as far as it goes.
Wetpaint Entertainment: Have you had any reaction from fans on the street?
Any love or any hate?
Chris Hernandez: Yeah, I’ve got a whole bunch of love. They’re not my fans,
I call them my family.
Chris Hernandez: The bad ones, to be honest, come from Nina’s fans. A couple
days ago someone saw me in the city and told me, “If you ever treat a girl
like that again, I will punch you in the face.” I was like, “OK then.”
It was a big altercation. I’m worried about that. There’s some diehard fans
and I fear for my safety.
