Catherine lived a wild life when she was in her 20's.
She met a fomer CSI (in episode "Felonious Monk") when she was a stripper.
The man thought she was very clever, so he supported her to persue this career.
Meanwhile, Catherine had Lindsey, and she decided to kick off her drug addiction
and started new again. She went to night school and get a degree in Medical Technology.

Sometime after she got the degree, Grissom recruited her to work for the lab.
