就像這段

我聽到耶路撒冷的鐘聲響起 (路易最後的引頸盼望，批判十字軍)

羅馬大軍齊聲高歌 (路易希望再度重振雄風，批判十字軍)

Be my mirror my sword and shield
（請再次）成為我的鏡子,我的劍與盾

My missionaries in a foreign field
我的傳教士正在遠方國度
(可惜終究是路易的癡心妄想，一方面雙關說宗教鬥爭背離了宗教的立意)

因為某種原因我無法解釋 (仇恨因人而起很難解釋其中關係錯綜複雜)

I know Saint Peter won't call my name
我知道聖彼得將不會呼喚我的名字
(因路易不是耶穌，另一方面可能也是說宗教鬥爭背離了宗教的勸人向善之意，
彼德將不會再呼喚耶穌的名字，暗示宗教的墮落。)

Never an honest word
不再有誠實的話語
(一方面說路易孤立無援一方面諷刺中古世紀宗教的鬥爭)

But that was when I ruled the world
但那就是我統治的世界
(宗教因人而起的黑暗面)


我覺得..是有宗教批判的味道

但就整個歌詞所寫的故事來講，是讓路易十六當主角來一段內心戲
背景則是法國大革命的情景


Coldplay想表達的是路易十六他不是真的是罪大惡極的混蛋
只是一個歷史進程中的可憐魁儡，犧牲品..

無奈..但又能怎樣?
這就是他所統治的世界，時間每一分每一秒構成

這就是人性的黑暗讓原本立意為善的宗教抹上了陰影
發生都已經發生了，十字軍東征都已經哀鴻遍野幾百年了
我們又能怎樣，只能把握當下而已啊!
所以後來才會有馬丁路德發起的宗教改革等等..

我們是要往回看那段不堪的往事
相信至今基督教仍然是一堆誅殺異己的混球組成的
還是要取聖經中良善的智慧，放下仇恨?

每個生命存在都有其意義和價值
仇恨因人而起，也可以由人改變
歌頌生命吧!活在當下吧!

我覺得這是歌詞中所要宣達的

這是我的一點看法~
