在這一集，Ford對Bernard說了一句

“Timshel ,Bernard. Thou mayest”

Timshel是希伯來文(也有人說應該是Timshol才正確，有人會希伯來文嗎?)

Thou mayest是古英文

意思都是You may

也就是You can if you want



這句話應該是取自John Steinbeck 的 East of Eden

書中討論上帝對該隱說所說的話

重點在上色的部分

And the Lord said unto Cain, "Why art thou wroth? And why is they countenance
fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not
well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou
shalt rule over him." (22.4.29)

這個版本是英王欽定版的聖經

翻成現代英文就是

"Cain, why are you so mad? If you get me a good gift, won't I accept it? And
if you don't, you're inviting in sin. And it's gonna try to make you sin, and
you're gonna rule over it."

Thou shalt的意思是you shall 你應該、你要

所以書中的角色Lee認為Thou mayest是較正確的翻譯

重點在於Thou mayest是有選擇的

我看到字幕的翻譯是「Bernard，你可以的」

我覺得「你可以的」這翻譯會讓我覺得有點像是Ford鼓勵Bernard這麼做，好像有點脫離
原文

但Ford的確是要Bernard照他說的做沒錯

所以Ford的原意到底是You shall，還是You may呢?



再來就是Ford對Bernard講出這句話的同時

是不是暗示Ford自詡為上帝，而Bernard是該隱

而Dolores就是夏娃

畢竟Ford都對Maeve說：「你是我最喜歡的孩子」

所以Ford的確就是認為自己是上帝

他創造了這些孩子

然而我和女友則認為Arnold才是屬於上帝的角色

Ford反而比較像是蛇的角色


在Westworld（伊甸園）

Host原本並沒有意識到自己是人類的玩物
(亞當和夏娃赤身全裸，卻不在意）

而Ford刻意的讓Host覺醒
(蛇引誘夏娃吃了蘋果，有了知善惡的能力)

Host開始反抗
(亞當和夏娃有了羞恥心，用樹葉當作衣服)
