Duchovny Confirms X-Files 2... Again
An end to development hell in sight?

X-Files star David Duchovny and series creator Chris Carter have been talking
about a second X-Files motion picture for years. However, the talk has remained
just that — talk — with 1998's mid-series movie marking the high point in the
X-Files franchise.

Is there more truth out there waiting to be pursued, cornered, and analyzed by
Fox Mulder and Dana Sculley? Apparently so, for firm plans are finally underway
to make a new film based on the popular paranormal-themed show.Duchovny told
the press, as reported on the IESB.net website, this week that he and co-star
Gillian Anderson are in final negotiations for The X-Files II.In fact, he was
confident enough to say that a deal would probably struck by the end of the
week, with filming to commence in 2008.

There is no script for the film yet, but Duchovny suggested it would follow up
on the core stories of both the series and the movie. It's worth remembering,
however, that when Duchovny was previously in negotiations for the movie back
in 2005,he stated they were working on a story that would focus on the super-
natural rather than the alien conspiracy that dominated the film and most of
the series.

Additionally, it's not clear whether any use will be made of the screenplay
Frank Spotnitz was hired to write in 2006. Spotnitz was then under orders to
ignore the X-Files alien mythology in favor of a fresh story.If previous work
on the film is being discarded, does that mean we get another film based on
the intriguing alien plot and mythology of the TV series? This is one more film
we'll be watching closely here at IGN Movies.
