Reality TV Games participated in a post-elimination phone call with America
Next Top Model 16's Dalya Morrow.
How did you get from Texas to California?
My parents moved us out here, we relocated here because of my dad's job,
first we moved to Anaheim and then to Corona, [which is inland in Riverside
County]. (How old were you when you moved?) I was about four years old. (So
you're pretty much a Californian...) Yeah, but I still represent Texas
because that is where I was born and that is where most of my family is
from... I still love Houston.
How did your runway walk develop?
When I was at school and stuff, I would walk in the hallways and I did not
really care what people thought about me because I told people that I was
going to be a model whether they believed me or not and that I was going to
work every runway possible if I got the opportunity. I walked at school... I
practiced at the mall... when I woke up in the morning and walked down the
hall to my bathroom, I wore out my mother's carpet downstairs because I would
walk up and down the hall... I practice every day no matter where I was, I
practiced my walk.
[This is also the case] when it comes to being in the mirror and trying to
figure out my angles because that is where I need help... trying to figure
out my chin and what works best because you know how big my chin is and it
can photograph a little weird so I have to practice that every single day,
that's what models do, you have to practice if you want to be great at it.
(So you're practicing for print modeling too?) Yes, I know that I need a lot
more work in that specific area because I know that I can photograph a little
umm... different (slight laugh), I'll put it that way. I know I need to work
at it, even on the night that I was eliminated, I went straight to the mirror
because I remembered what Tyra told me, "don't let your features wear you,
you need to wear them," so I need to be in that mirror and that is what I did
that night, I was like, "I need to get this chin down." I have a look to be
in this industry and I have the drive and the love for it, so I am not going
to stop because of one comment about my chin or because someone does not like
my chin, I am going to work around my chin and make it work for me.
How many shows have you walked in?
Before I was with an agency, I was on this site, Model Mayhem and that is how
I got my shows then, I would connect with designers who needed models and I
would do it for no money because I wanted to gain that experience of walking
on a runway... I would say that I walked in maybe ten or twelve shows before
I landed with an agency. Once I was with an agency, it was a lot more
difficult getting jobs because I was competing with other girls, so with an
agency... about six shows.
Didn't you know Alexandria before the show?
Yeah I knew her before, we worked together in Los Angeles, we were with the
same agency and that's when I met her... it was about two years ago. I met
her through our first agency and I thought she was real cool and I thought
that she was wise, that was my first taste of being with a professional
agency and I was like, "whoa this is different." I was trying to get to know
the girls... she talked to me about what she was experiencing but what I
didn't know was that she started at the same time as me, so I was like
shocked, she seemed like she knew everything... she was kinda cool and I
would run into her at a casting or a fashion show or something.
What is your current status?
Right now I am not with an agency, actually I've been researching agencies.
[I am looking for] an agency that will be behind me 100% and work with my
look and get me out there... I have to work hard and tell them what I need. I
have to find the right agency, I think that that is the advice that I would
give to any girl and that is that you have to find an agency that fits you
and can help you get to where you want to be. There are a few agencies that I
really, really like and I am going to look into them and see if they are
interested in taking me on.
Are you going to stay in LA?
Actually no, I don't really feel like I have the look for Los Angeles, I just
look completely different than anyone that I've run into down here and what
they look for when I go out to castings. I have a distinct look, it's just
too much of... I don't know, it's just too much. I feel like New York will be
the best place for me to develop and be around other girls that might have a
similar look and strong features. I think that my look would work a lot
better in New York than here in Los Angeles, so I don't plan on staying here
for very long but I do plan on signing with an agency out here so I can get
some work so I can get to New York.
Did you watch Top Model before?
I used to watch the show, I love Top Model and all of the challenges that
Tyra made the girls go through, I was like, "how are these girls doing this?"
I watched from the beginning with Adrienne and so forth and so on, there are
a few seasons that I missed but I love the idea behind Top Model. (What is
your favorite ANTM cycle?) [Cycle 6] with Danielle and Joanie... I predicted
that those two would be at the top, I was like, "those two girls are
amazing!" that was my favorite season of all.
Who are your favorite ANTM competitors?
I won't say that she's my favorite but the one that stood out and that I will
never forget is Jade. She stood out to me like a sore thumb, I was like,
"that girl will never be forgotten." (Do you have a favorite Jade moment or
saying?) Pretty much everything... the way she talked, like in the
confessional and talked about herself all the time, it kinda bothered me but
I was like, "that girl is kinda she's crazy," and I just loved how she was
making made all the girls uncomfortable.
Was there a Jade in Cycle 16?
I don't know (laughs), I don't think that there is a girl that crazy... I
don't think that there is a girl who measured up to Jade, but there was a
girl who rubbed everybody the wrong way but I don't know if that was
intentional... I don't think that she did it on purpose... I don't think that
[she knew that rubbed everybody the wrong way] but I think that she can
probably see that now.
Alexander McQueen and Giambattista Valli were listed as your favorite
desingers, any others?
There are so many designers out there who catch my eye, I can take bits and
pieces from each designer... I love Dolce & Gabbana and how sexy it is, I am
not sure if I could model that because I would be too nervous but that would
be kinda cool... I love Chloe, I also love Ralph Lauren. I would have loved
to have walked for Alexander McQueen, I don't know what it is about his
designs but I just like looking at them and studying them.
Who are your favorite models?
I always loved Heidi Klum, I love her so much and what she does with Project
Runway, that's cool... and Chanel Iman. I grew up watching Tyra and Naomi
Campbell, I loved seeing them on the runway and I wanted to incorporate some
of what they did and make it into my own, I studied their walks because I
wanted to be just as fierce as Naomi and Tyra... I just love those four
models, Heidi Klum, Chanel Iman, Tyra and Naomi.
Are you on Facebook, Twitter or some other social network?
Yes, I am on Facebook and Twitter. Aga Note: I think that the Twitter is
correct but I am less certain about Facebook.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
Thank you for all the support and to all who believe in me and who looked at
me and saw a model, I want to thank you for all the support and the amazing
comments... people that I don't even know who support me and like my look, I
just want to thank you for all the love.
