此時我非常感激。我不覺得自己比其他入圍者，或在場的任何人都要高人一等。因為我們
有著相同的愛—那就是電影的愛。這樣表達的形式，給予了我最不平凡的生活；倘若沒有
對電影的愛，我不知道我會在哪裡。然而我認為，這賦予我最珍貴的禮物。今天在場的許
多人，都有機會利用自己的聲音，去為那些沒有能力的人們發聲。我一直在思考人類共同
面臨的一些困擾問題。



我想有時我們感受、或被迫感受到，我們擁抱多元的理由。但是對我而言，我看到了共同
之處。我認為，無論我們是在談論性別不平等、種族主義、酷兒權利、少數民族權利或是
動物權利，我們都在談論與對抗不公義。我們要表達的是反對一種信念，即一個國家、一
個民族、一個種族、一種性別、一種物種，得以有權統治、利用及控制他人，卻可以逍遙
法外。



我認為我們已經與自然世界脫節。我們當中有許多人，都犯有以自我為中心的世界觀：我
們認為自己是宇宙的中心。我們闖入自然世界，並掠奪自然資源。我們認為有權人工授精
一頭母牛。當她生產之時，我們也偷走她的孩子，即使她的痛哭如此千真萬確。然後，我
們將原本給要哺育幼牛的奶水，放入咖啡和穀物中。



我們害怕改變自我，因為那意味著犧牲與放棄擁有的事物。但是，人類最大的才能是創造
與革新，而我們可以創建、開發和實行對眾生與環境都有益的變革系統。我過去曾表現得
像個無賴，自私自利。我有時候相當冷酷，難與他人合作，而我很感激在場的你們，很多
人給了我第二次機會。當我們互相支持時，那是我們最好的一面：不是因為過去的錯誤而
彼此抵消，而是當我們幫助對方成長。當我們互相教育時、當我們指引其救贖時，那是人
性最美好的光輝。



我哥哥17歲那年寫下這句。

I’m full of so much gratitude now. I do not feel elevated above any of my fel
low nominees or anyone in this room, because we share the same love – that’s
the love of film. And this form of expression has given me the most extraordi
nary life. I don’t know where I’d be without it. But I think the greatest gi
ft that it’s given me, and many of us in this room is the opportunity to use
our voice for the voiceless. I’ve been thinking about some of the distressing
issues that we’ve been facing collectively.

I think at times we feel or are made to feel that we champion different causes
. But for me, I see commonality. I think, whether we’re talking about gender
inequality or racism or queer rights or indigenous rights or animal rights, we
’re talking about the fight against injustice. We’re talking about the fight
against the belief that one nation, one people, one race, one gender, one spe
cies, has the right to dominate, use and control another with impunity.

I think we’ve become very disconnected from the natural world. Many of us are
guilty of an egocentric world view, and we believe that we’re the center of
the universe. We go into the natural world and we plunder it for its resources
. We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow. When she gets birth, we s
teal her baby even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. Then we take
her milk that’s intended for her calf and we put it in our coffee and our cer
eal.

We fear the idea of personal change because we think we need to sacrifice some
thing, to give something up. But human beings at our best are so creative and
inventive, and we can create, develop and implement systems of change that are
beneficial to all sentient beings and the environment. I have been a scoundre
l all my life, I’ve been selfish. I’ve been cruel at times, hard to work wit
h, and I’m grateful that so many of you in this room have given me a second c
hance. I think that’s when we’re at our best: when we support each other. No
t when we cancel each other out for our past mistakes, but when we help each o
ther to grow. When we educate each other; when we guide each other to redempti
on. That is the best of humanity.

When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric.
He said: “run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.” Thank you.
