Reality TV Games participated in a post-elimination phone call with America
Next Top Model 16's Monique Weingart.
How old are you?
I turned twenty in March. (Height?) They had me at 5'11" on the show but I am
pretty sure that I am 6 foot... 5'11 and 3/4". (ethnicity?) I am mostly
German and a little Swedish.
Where is Hebron, Illinois?
It is basically in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farms, it's about two
hours away from Chicago. (Did you grow up on a farm?) I grew up in town, on
the main street; the whole town is surrounded by corn fields and cows. It is
an extremely small town with about 1200 people... I graduated with about
twenty kids. (How did you adjust to living in Los Angeles?) Living in LA was
awesome and I plan on going back there soon, [later] I plan to move to LA at
the end of April. ([Have you lived outside of Hebron before?]) I moved to
Sacramento when I was sixteen because I was trying to play volleyball, so
that was my first big move and I ended up moving back home because of my
boyfriend and then I had a really bad injury and stopped playing volleyball
and decided to go for modeling again. I was going to Chicago every single
week end and meeting as many people as I can because I believe that it is all
about who you know in this industry and I was just doing random photoshoots,
trying to build my portfolio and fashion shows in Chicago, that was such a
thrill for me, it was like a two hour train ride but it was really fun for
me.
So you've modeled before?
Yeah I remember the very moment [I decided to pursue modeling], my mom and I
were at the airport and she said, "honey, when you get a little older, you
can try modeling if you want." I love pictures and I am obviously extremely
tall and so it was always an interest of mine. I went to this casting thing
in Chicago with my mom when I was twelve years old and all these agencies
freaked out and were like, "you have to sign with us!" I had Ford and Elite
fighting over me and I signed with Ford, I was with them for about two years
and I got some work but it did not take off, that was really frustrating and
when I was fourteen they let me go, it was really sad for me and I was like
screw this, I don't need to be judged by anybody, I gonna play ball but then
I realized that it is a love and passion of mine, so I went for it again when
I turned eighteen.
Did your injury end your volleyball career?
Yes when I moved to California I played at this school with this amazing
volleyball team and I did not even get to play that much because in Hebron we
literally had ten people on our team but at the school in California there
were literally hundreds trying out... being able to play with them made me a
much better player... then I moved home... I was driving like an asshole on a
back country road, like eighty miles an hour without my seat belt on and I
crashed into a tree, I feel like I should have died, I literally should have
died in that car crash and the only thing that happened was I broke my foot.
I had to sit out the rest of the season, my foot really hurts sometime like
whenever the weather changes, it really sucks but everything happens for a
reason.
Alexandria's diary...
I walked into the room and all of the girls were talking about how crazy and
over the top she was and I am an extremely impulsive person and I got this
idea, "oh look at her diary," obviously I was the leader of that whole little
segment... I regret doing that only because I wish I would have told her how
we really felt... everyone was really intimidated by her and we did not
really tell her how we were feeling and I am really sure that that was
hurtful for her, it was kind of a shock I am sure. I called her before that
episode [and told her], "hey girl I want to forewarn you about tonight and
what's going down and I'm sorry," she was like, "no I really never expected
that... I had no idea that you guys felt that way." No one understood that
she was not trying to act crazy but that's how she came off, honestly I think
that Alexandria is awesome and I hope that we continue to be friends... we
kinda hashed everything out when I talked to her last week... that's why I
felt so guilty about it because I, out of all those girls, should have said,
"listen everyone is pissed off at you... you're really getting on everyone's
nerves... you really need to take a chill pill and relax a bit." I was not
intimidated by her but I kinda felt bad for her because she said in the diary
that no one was understanding her and that is exactly what was happening. I
am pretty sure that she has her own personal things that she is dealing with
that make her act really motherly and outspoken... her own issues, but in
general I think that she is a really nice girl but she just comes across
sometimes as kinda bitchy, but so did I on the show and that is not really
who I am.
(What are you going to do with Alexandria when you get to LA?)
I am going to have coffee with her and give her a really big hug and
hopefully we will go surfing or something, because I think that we will get
along really great outside the show. I just hope that she can forgive me for
acting like such a bitch about the diary but at least I did not go reading
through all the pages, I just flipped to the back page and read one thing...
that was just a childish move but I was getting caught up in the whole TV
aspect, I think that we are going to get through it though.
Are you the outspoken one among your friends and family?
I usually am... I have always been the outspoken one, I always had a lot of
friends and I was in Girl Scouts until I was a sophomore in high school
(laughs)... I usually speak my mind. I am not as bitchy as I came off on the
show which was really frustrating for me because people either love me or
hate me because I'm a bitch and I am like, I am a much more dynamic person
than that and that did not get shown, that sucks and it's frustrating but
that's reality TV so there is nothing that I can do at this time. (I think
that more than one person has mentioned being friends with you.) Yeah I love
all the girls... I definitely clashed with Alexandria a little bit but I hope
that I can hang out with her when I move to LA and everything. I might have
said some bitchy stuff but I feel like everything bitchy that I ever said was
on TV.
Is there anything that you wish would have been shown that was not?
I really, really, really wish that they would have shown the auditions
process at the beginning because that would have shown everyone exactly the
way we are. My whole family are artists and musicians [later] my grandmother
and mom are artists, my mom sings, my dad is a guitar player and my step dad
plays the bass and I can do all of the above... I am left handed and I like
to play the guitar, I can play the guitar pretty naturally because it is in
my genes, I don't do that enough... and I always acted in high school. I love
to meet people and I love to hang out with any type of person, [during the
fan challenge] I said, "there are a lot of weird people," I love weird
people, I think that they are the most interesting to hang out with. I wish
that you would have gotten to see my personality a little bit more, I
obviously want to be a supermodel but I have a lot more depth to me.
Based on your experiences on Top Model, what are you going to do or not do as
a model or a person?
I really struggled in the beginning with how I was posing in front of the
camera and was not aware that I was looking extremely sexy and that whole
vibe versus looking more high fashion, some of the best photos that I had
were the ones where I was looking more natural... jeans and a white T-shirt,
no make up. Meeting Mr. and Miss Jay and the criticisms they had and the tips
and advice like looking like a broken down doll versus a pin up, that really
opened my eyes and I feel like I will be a better model because of that, but
I really want to rock being more curvy too, I'm really pushing for that and I
am glad that I am not a size zero stick thin, starving model and hopefully I
can inspire some of the girls out there who want to be healthy instead of
sickly thin. (You do have a body, it's like rawr and I am like and when I
read some of the comments about you...) [RTVG] is the only blog I read, I
just want you to know that... some people think that I have fake boobs and I
would never, ever, ever get fake boobs, I was just born with these curves and
when I first started modeling it was kind of challenging because it was like,
"lose weight, lose weight," and I am like, "no, I like my booty, I don't
wanna lose that." (later) I want to get into extremely good shape, I have
been working out with my trainer and I want to let girls know just like Tyra
did on the show that you don't have to exclude any food from your diet as
long as there is variety... for me it's all about being healthy, you don't
want to eat pizza every day even though I could eat pizza for breakfast,
lunch and dinner.
What types of modeling are you interested in?
I would love to do more commercial stuff... some of the stuff that [I've
read] like, "she's too Maxim... she's way too Sports Illustrated or
Victoria's Secret..." I don't think that I am ready for that stuff right now,
but that 's definitely a goal of mine to do some lingerie... nothing too sexy
because I don't want to be known as that girl but like Tyra Banks for
instance, she is a curvier woman and look how successful she is. I always
wanted to do runway but I am starting to learn that the super snobbier people
are in high fashion and that just bothers me, there's no reason to be rude or
snobby like that. I'm planning on moving to LA and taking some acting
classes, I think that that is the best market for me, some of the girls are
moving to New York and some to LA. (Anything else in addition to modeling?) I
want to become a triple threat, a model, actress [and musician], I would much
rather be known for beauty and brains and being an athlete than just being a
regular runway model, I want to be known for being more than just a model.
Who were your friends in the house?
I was closest to Molly, Brittani and Jaclyn, I adore people with an awesome
sense of humor and Molly is hilarious. Jaclyn is the sweetest thing that you
will ever, ever talk to, I love Brittani too, she's really down to earth... I
talk to all the girls now that the show is over... I really got along with
Dominique, she was awesome and very funny too and she's a really good dancer,
and Audie... Ondrei, it really sucks that they had that rude comment about
her but I really loved Audie.
Who are your favorite models?
My favorite model at the moment is Lara Stone, she is glam and gorgeous and
has an awesome body. I always wanted to be Gisele [Bundchen] is a huge
inspiration to me, Tyra as well, those are my three favorites. There's also
Linda Evangelista and Natalia Vodianova, I love her and also people who
aren't models, I adore Rihanna and Michelle [Ermano?? Umbado?? Lombardo??].
(Favorite designer?) Stella McCartney, I feel like I should know more
designers but I never focused on designers as much as I did models... I can't
afford that stuff, my favorite place in American Apparel.
What is your personal style?
I am just learning my personal style, I am one of those people who can wear
whatever the hell I want as long as I'm confident, right now my whole
wardrobe is American Apparel, I love all their clothing, I am really into the
whole eighties look right now, off one shoulder, spandex in boots. My style
is kinda laid back, I've never been a huge fashionista.
What few words pop in your mind about...
Jay Manuel - Jay Manuel is awesome...cool, he reminds me of one of my best
friends in Chicago, he's really sassy and hilarious, both of the Jays are
really funny and are so awesome to work with and I hope [more than anything
to work] with them again.
J Alexander - I absolutely adore Miss J, he is probably the coolest person in
the modeling industry, he is so sassy and fierce, I hate using that word
because it is so overused on the show. I read his book when I got eliminated
and now he is one of my favorite inspirations, like growing up in the Bronx
and he moved to Japan and was an extremely successful model, it's like how
the hell do you take a six foot four man and make him incredibly awesome and
he totally did it and he looks damn good, that's why I was so pissed off [on
the last episode] because I wanted to go to dinner with him so bad and off
camera he said, "I wish you were coming too, boo boo," I was like, "dammit
that sucks so bad!"
Nigel - Every girl that I talk to is like, "oh my god, you got to meet Nigel,
he so sexy!" and I'm like, "Nigel, ugh," he kinda rubs me the wrong way I
know that that is probably not good of me to say... the whole [British
accent], "oh you look absolutely fantastic!" "oh so wonderful... fierce," I
just feel like he repeats himself all the time, he says the same stuff but it
was cool meeting him.
Andre Leon Talley - It was cool to meet him, he dreckituded me at the first
panel, I was wearing a red shirt and was like "it's a bold color and you
can't go wrong in red," and he told me that I looked like I was going to
audition for Maxim, apparently that was a bad choice. I was so nervous about
it because I thought that I was going to get humiliated [on national
television] but they did not show it. I am intimidated by him because he is
such a huge fashion icon.
Tyra - Tyra is my dream woman... I love her, it was almost petrifying to look
her in the eye because she has these eyes that like go through you. She is so
incredibly beautiful and it was so cool meeting her... she is such an
inspirational woman and she sends a really good message and that is what I
like most about her.
Are you on Facebook, Twitter or some other social network?
I am going to start a twitter when I move to LA at the end of April and I am
on Facebook.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
Anything that you can put your mind to, you can achieve and be confident in
anything that you do. Keep looking out for me and I hope that you will see
who I really am, I am kind of a bitch but I am not always a bitch, I'm really
not... I love you guys, I love you all so much, I love the fans, I love the
haters and I love [RTVG]!
